DearColeridge，—Ithoughtofnotwritingtillwehadperformedsomeofourmissions;butwehavebeenhinderedfromsettingaboutthem，whichyetshallbedonetoatittle.WegothomeverypleasantlyonSunday.Maryisagooddealfatigued，andfindsthedifferenceofgoingtoaplace，andingfromit.IfeelthatIshallrememberyourmountainstothelastdayIlive.Theyhauntmeperpetually.Iamlikeamanwhohasbeenfallinginloveunknowntohimself，whichhefindsoutwhenheleavesthelady.Idonotrememberanyverystrongimpressionwhiletheywerepresent;but，beinggone，theirmementosareshelvedinmybrain.WepassedaverypleasantlittletimewiththeClarksons.TheWordsworthsareatMontagusrooms，nearneighbourstous.Theydinedwithusyesterday，andIwastheirguidetoBartlemyFair!

[Inthesummerof1802theLambspaidasuddenvisittoColeridgeatKeswick.AfterwardstheywenttoGrasmere，althoughtheWordsworthswereawayfromhome;buttheysawThomasClarkson，thephilanthropist，thenlivingatUllswater（seethenextletter）.TheyhadreachedLondonagainonSeptember5.Procterrecordsthatonbeingaskedhowhefeltwhenamongthelakesandmountains，Lambrepliedthatinordertobringdownhisthoughtsfromtheiralmostpainfulelevationtothesoberregionsoflife，hewasobligedtothinkofthehamandbeefshopnearSt.MartinsLane.Lambsaysthataftersuchaholidayhefindshisofficeworkverystrange."Ifeeldebased;butIshallsoonbreakinmymountainspirit."Thelasttwowordswerearecollectionofhisownpoem"TheGrandame"—

Thisletter，theoriginalofwhichisIknownotwhere，ishere，fordismalcopyrightreasons，veryimperfectlygiven.Mr.Macdonaldprintsitapparentlyinfull，althoughMrs.GilchristinhermemoirofMaryLambsuppliesanotherpassage，asfollows:—"LloydhaswrittenmeafineletteroffriendshipallabouthimselfandSophiaandloveandcantwhichIhavenotanswered.Ihavenotgivenuptheideaofwritingtohimbutitwillbedoneveryplainlyandsincerely，withoutacrimony."

LambalsosaysthatPi-pos（asColeridgessecondchildDerwentwascalled）wastheonlyone，exceptabeggarsbrat，thathehadeverwantedtostealfromitsparents.

Hesaysalso:"Iwaspleasedtorecogniseyourblank-versepoem（thePicture）intheMorn.PostofMonday.Itreadsverywell，andIfeelsomedignityinthenotionofbeingabletounderstanditbetterthanmostSouthernreaders."
